Meet The Coaches
Denise Callahan has maintained a lifelong love of swimming that began at age six when she learned to swim at Calf Pasture Beach. From there she swam competitively on a USS team and for Norwalk High School. Her achievements include High School All-American and All-FCIAC. As a member of the Boston College Swim Team she was an All-American and Big East Champion.
In 2007 she joined the Wilton Masters Swim Team, thoroughly enjoying the camaraderie and attending several YMCA Masters Swimming Championships as a member of the Wilton Masters Team and later, the Westport YMCA Masters.
From college days through the present Denise has also enjoyed open water swimming, first to maintain her fitness level during college recesses and then as a member of Swim Across the Sound relays, including a two-person relay that won their division, a “bucket list” achievement.
Denise loves the sport and very much loves helping others to achieve competence in swimming whether the goal be faster freestyle for a Tri event or facility with all strokes. This has been demonstrated by a stint as a high school coach in the 1980s and more recently as a swim instructor for children and adults just learning to swim. She is eager to become re-engaged with coaching and very much looks forward to helping people at Velo-CT achieve their swimming-related goals.
Coach Mark Sedlak
Coach Pete is affiliated with and coached USA Swimming and US Masters Programs since 1992 in both the US and UK. His main focus for coaching has been to develop all skill levels by focusing on technique through Total Immersion (TI) type drills while listening to the swimmer's individual wants and goals.
